In 2003, the 1917 Outpatient Clinic organized an initiative specifically to the African American faith community.
The primary focus of this initiative is to provide outreach to the African American faith community in relation to HIV disease. It is designed to develop partnerships with African American congregations and community organizations to accomplish the following goals:
Facilitate HIV prevention education;
Encourage persons in the African American faith community to be tested for HIV disease;
To refer those testing preliminarily positive for HIV to seek treatment; and
Empower congregations to offer compassionate care to persons living with HIV disease.
We welcome the opportunity to participate in any events, especially health-related ones, that will allow us to share important information as it relates to HIV infection and faith.
