SHAPE: Becoming a SHAPE Educator

Become an Educator to teach college students, youth and other young adults about healthy Sexual Decision Making and HIV Infection

What’s needed?

Good communication skills, responsibility, an open mind, flexibility, a team attitude, an interest in educating others, and a desire to learn.

Peer Educators register for the Peer Education course during the fall semester. The course is offered at UAB for both graduate and undergraduate students. Full-time students enrolled at local colleges and universities may register through the BACHE course exchange program (http://www.bache.app.uab.edu/course_exchange.htm). Educators plan and lead sexual health and HIV workshops and other outreach events (World AIDS Day, Sexual Responsibility Week, etc) as their schedule permits, but with a willingness to contribute an average of 2-4 hours per week after completing the course. SHAPE Educators are also trained to offer HIV OraQuick Testing & Counseling through the 1917 Clinic.

Please see this SHAPE flyer for more information.

HIV Educators (people living with HIV) may complete a volunteer application and schedule an interview with Kelly Ross-Davis, krd@uab.edu, 205-934-9253.
